FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How quickly can you complete my order?
It all depends. We can complete some orders in a day or two. More complex jobs can take several days. Of course, if you need a really fast turnaround, we will try to accommodate your needs. As many of our clients can testify, we will go above and beyond to meet your deadlines.
How can I get an estimate/quote from you?
To ensure we get all the information necessary to provide an accurate quote, give us a call at (615) 350-7300 or send an e-mail to sales@richprinting.com and talk with one of our sales or customer service representatives.
What is the purpose of a “proof”?
A proof is a prototype image that is supposed to show how it will appear when printed on the press. A proof ensures us that you have approved the text, colors, fonts and positioning of your printed piece. Whether it is a PDF® or hard copy proof, we will not begin production until you sign off on the proof. Whether you designed it or we did, we still need to send you a proof.
Why do I need to look at and approve a proof if I’ve already given you everything I need to have done?
Once again, this proof ensures us that we are printing exactly what you, the customer, wants printed. Sometimes a word might need to be changed at the last minute. Sometimes a customer may give us their design that they set up in Microsoft Word ® or Microsoft Publisher ®, which is fine. However, we sometimes cannot print from those files. When we create a PDF ® from those software programs, the fonts may shift. So, just in case, we send you a proof for your review and approval.
What is saddle stitching?
Saddle stitching is a common way to bind booklets and other thin publications. It is used for everything from catalogs to bulletins and graduation programs. In this process, one or more open signatures are stacked on top of an angled metal surface called a saddle, hence the name. The folds in the signature are carefully centered on top of the saddle then staples are driven through this stack of paper to affix them together. The staples pierce the fold itself. All of Rich Printing Company’s saddle stitching happens on automated equipment at rates of up to 10,000 publications per hour.
If you have to bind a publication with a high page count, what are your options?
One method is adhesive binding, also called perfect binding. Perfect binding involves applying a hot glue adhesive to the spine of the pages. Signatures are stacked together and pages are timed and glued at the spine. The text pages of a perfect-bound book are glued to a cover. This binding method is used as a relatively inexpensive way to bind publications such as books, manuals, catalogs, and directories.
What is a signature?
One or more printed sheets folded to form a multiple page section of a book. Signatures are most commonly grouped as four, eight, sixteen or thirty-two pages. Various combinations of multiple page signatures create the full complement of pages needed in the printed piece.
